mission 1: hello, camera!
the first afternoon

Charge it. Pop in a roll. Mission 1 prints in 10 minutes.

No app to download, no account to set up, no wifi. They read the mission, find the thing, press the button, and the photo slides out in their hand. Most missions take 20 to 40 minutes.

  • First print on day one
  • Nothing for you to plan: every page is a mission
  • Works in a flat, a garden, a park or a car

Remember when the streetlights were your curfew?

  • ✓Street cricket that stopped for every car.
  • ✓Tadpoles in an old ice-cream tub.
  • ✓Silkworms in a shoebox, fed on the neighbour's mulberry leaves.
  • ✓A fort you refused to leave, even for supper.
  • ✓24 shots, and a whole week of waiting at the chemist.

Nobody had to tell you to go outside. Outside was where everything happened. And somewhere at your mom's house there's an album full of it. Sticky pages, slightly blurry, completely priceless.

and now?

It's always charged. It always has something new. It never gets tired.

That was never a fair fight, and it was never your job to win it. The games on that screen were built by thousands of clever people to be impossible to put down. “Go play outside” was never going to beat that on its own.

So we stopped trying to beat it. We built something they'd pick instead: a camera that prints what they find, and a book that tells them where to look.

how the quest works

Three steps. Thirty afternoons. One book that's all theirs.

1
Open the book. Pick a mission.
“Find exactly 5 of something.” Every page is a mission with an easy and a harder version, so there's nothing for you to plan.
2
Snap it. It prints on the spot.
Press the button and out comes the photo, right there. No phone, no app, no waiting a week.
3
Stick it in. Colour the star.
Every print gets its own page. Every finished page gets a coloured star. Star 30 opens the Finish Line Box.

30 sneaky lessons, included

They think it's a game. It's 30 lessons from Grade R to Grade 4.

Every mission hides one lesson children meet at school: counting, letters and sounds, shapes, measuring, weather, nature science, maps, graphs and writing. They're too busy hunting for five red things to notice they're counting.

Explorer · ages 4 to 6Find it, count it, name it, draw it. You help with the words.
Ranger · ages 7 to 10Guess first, then measure, tally and write a sentence. They run the show.

You'll know exactly what they learned. The Sneaky Skills Map at the back of the book decodes all 30 lessons and links each one to its CAPS topic. And every page ends with one Grown-up chat question, because talking about what you did together is how the lesson sticks.

Built around CAPS Foundation Phase topics. Guided play with a grown-up nearby helps young children learn early maths and shapes (Skene et al., 2022).

the book they'll keep forever
your mom kept an album. this one is theirs.

In twenty years, this is the book they'll pull off the shelf.

Thirty photos they took, printed, stuck in and coloured in themselves, next to their own drawings and words. Not a folder on your phone. A real book with their summer inside it.

  • 30 mission pages, each with a spot for the print and a star to colour
  • Prints are black and white, like an old newspaper photo, so kids can colour them in
  • Every photo is also saved in full colour on the 16 GB card
  • A white wire spiral, so it lies flat for little hands
remember counting down the days?

Finish the book. Open the box.

The Finish Line Box comes sealed inside the kit. Put it on the fridge where they can see it every single day. It only opens when all 30 stars are coloured.

Inside: a gold explorer medal on a ribbon, and a secret bonus mission that only finishers get to see.

Included in every kit. Open at page 30.

before you decide

The things parents ask us first.

“We don't have time.”Mission 1 takes 10 minutes. Most take 20 to 40. Do one a weekend or one a day, it's their pace.
“We don't have a garden.”Every mission has an “In a flat?” version: a balcony, a window, a park or the walk to the shop.
“Is it right for their age?”Explorer level for 4 to 6 (draw it), Ranger level for 7 to 10 (write it). Same page, same photo.
“It's a lot of money.”It's about R50 an afternoon, and they keep the book. Instalments are available at checkout.
“It's for the grandkids.”Ship it straight to them with your gift note. Page 2 of the book has a line for who it's from.
“What happens after page 30?”New Quest Packs from R199, each its own spiral book. Or the Quest Club: a new pack every month after page 30.

Off the jungle gym, into the pool, under the bike. If the Quest Cam breaks in the first 12 months, for any reason, fill in a 2-minute form with a photo. A new one leaves us within 2 working days. Free. Twice.

Why we can promise this: you're tired of gadgets that break by Boxing Day. So are we. A quest that stops at mission 6 is no quest at all.

  • Drops, knocks and bumps all covered
  • After that, a new Quest Cam at our staff price

The details
The Quest Cam2-inch viewfinder screen, prints black and white on 57 mm thermal paper, 16 GB card included, USB charging, about 2.5 to 3.5 hours a charge. Yellow or pink.
The Quest BookA5, 40 pages, white wire spiral, laminated cover. 30 missions plus the tracker, certificate and grown-ups pages.
In the boxQuest Cam, lanyard, USB cable, 16 GB card, 8 paper rolls, Quest Book, Finish Line Box, Start Here card.
What age is it for?

Ages 4 to 10. Every mission has an Explorer version for ages 4 to 6 and a Ranger version for ages 7 to 10. A 4-year-old does it with a grown-up; a 9-year-old runs the show.

Is it educational?

Yes, sneakily. Every mission practises a skill from Grade R to Grade 4: counting, letters and sounds, shapes, measuring, weather, nature science, writing and more. The Sneaky Skills Map at the back of the book decodes all 30. Your child just thinks they're on a quest.

Are the prints in colour?

The prints are black and white, like an old newspaper photo, because the camera prints on thermal paper with no ink. That's half the fun: kids colour them in. Every photo is also saved in full colour on the 16 GB card.

Is it another screen?

It has a small 2-inch viewfinder so kids can frame the shot. No apps, no wifi, no internet. It's a camera, not a tablet.

We live in a flat. Will it work?

Yes. Every mission has an “In a flat?” version that works from a balcony, a window, a park or a walk to the shop.

What happens when the paper runs out?

The kit has 8 rolls, enough for all 30 missions with spares. Refills are R149 for 4 rolls, and every Quest Club pack comes with fresh paper.

How long does the battery last?

About 2.5 to 3.5 hours of use per charge (the manufacturer's figure). It charges with the included USB cable.

Is it safe?

Every mission is written for a grown-up nearby. None sends kids anywhere alone, near roads or water, or asks them to photograph strangers. We're having the paper independently tested and will publish the result here.

What if it breaks?

The Unbreakable Promise: 2 free replacements in the first 12 months, drops included. Fill in a 2-minute form and a new one leaves us within 2 working days. After that, a new Quest Cam at our staff price.

What's in the Finish Line Box?

A gold Founding Explorer 2026 medal on a ribbon and a secret bonus mission. It comes sealed in the kit and opens when all 30 stars are coloured.

How do Quest Packs work?

Each Quest Pack is its own spiral book in the same style as the Quest Book, with 12 new missions and a sealed surprise. Collect them on the shelf.

What's the video reward?

After 5 missions, film a short honest video review and write a few lines. Send both through our form and choose any 2 Quest Packs, posted free. You don't have to post it anywhere, and honest is the only rule. One per order.

Can Gran send it straight to the kids?

Yes. Enter their address at checkout and add your gift note in the cart. It arrives gift-ready at their door.

When will it arrive?

We ship from Joburg within 2 working days. Most orders arrive in 2 to 5 working days.

How can I pay?

Checkout is by Stitch: card, Pay by Bank, Capitec Pay, or Stitch Pay Later to split it into 2 to 6 monthly payments (subject to approval).

Can I return it?

Yes. You have 7 days after delivery to change your mind, plus your full rights under the Consumer Protection Act.
